Prior to initiating conflict mediation, the adult must have established himself or herself in the children’s eyes as someone who cares about them, who will keep them safe, and who is predictable in reacting to children’s actions. It is on these primary elements of adult–child relationships that the model is founded. Failure to establish these conditions undermines the spirit of the process. Therefore, the mediation model is most effectively implemented only after children are and ways the plan might be generalized for home use. Carry out the plan, offering and getting periodic feedback from home. Support parents as they express their frustration or concern throughout the process. Keep family members apprised of children’s progress.
