Tension members and Structural members
Tension members refer to linear members so structured that t
heir axial forces result in stretching. A good example of a tension member would be rope. Tension members can carry loads in the most efficient manner because their entire cross section is subjected to uniform stress. They do not face failure through buckling like compression members. In construction, examples of tensions members would be suspenders of cable, ties of trusses and suspension bridges. Tension members can have multiple cross sections.
