In January 2012, the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) was a state-wide institution with 21 adult prisons housing over 28,000 offenders. IDOC places a high focus on the safety of both convicts and the general public, which is part of the organization's purpose and vision. IDOC's Director of Construction Services sought a solution that not only boosted efficiency and dependability for prison facility employees, but also assured that both inmate and public safety remained consistent with their organization's goal and vision.
3.0 Type of Operations Provided by the Agency
The agency is engaged in following services and operations;
3.1 Adult Correctional Facilities
Inspection and licensing of state and municipal correctional facilities, including as prisons, lockups, holding facilities, adult institutions, and halfway homes, is the responsibility of the DOC. Adult correctional institutions' primary mission is to offer safe and secure custody, direction, and control of offenders, as well as programs that address dynamic criminogenic variables to aid in offenders' successful reintegration into society (Blackburn et al 2020, p.1981). Probation officials supervise both adult and juvenile offenders serving community-based sentences imposed by the Court. Probation, conditional sentencing, custody and supervision, conditional supervision, and Intensive Rehabilitative Custody and Supervision are among the penalties available.
