IDIEA 2004 and implication on classroom teachers
Individuals with disabilities education improvement act (IDEIA) of 2004
is very closely aligned with the original Individuals with disabilities act (IDEA-a). The IDEA act highlights how schools should identify students having learning disabilities and how they should develop and implement IEPs. It also highlights how they are to be transitioned to higher education.
· More procedures were added to recognizing children with disabilities. Each state is required to create regulations to determine children with disability. These regulations must be based on research-based interventions and not achievements. Schools within the state must abide by these regulations.
· Determination of disability need to be done by parents and qualified professionals
· Determining factors must also include- inadequacy in achievement against a child’s age or grade-level, inadequate progress against research based intervention, noticeable pattern of strengths and weaknesses in performance against age or grade level.
