ROLE OF ACAT
ACAT is Acyl – CoA cholesterol acyl transferase or also called as O – acyltransferase
(SOAT). It falls in the category of enzymes of acyltransferases. It is a very important enzyme. It has a major role to play in the biological production of bile acid. The cholesterol esterification, which is mediated by ACAT, brings down its solubility in the lipids of the cell membrane and therefore advancing the cholesterol ester deposits in the fat droplets in the cytoplasm.
As observed by Arnaboldi et al. (2020), this process is of extreme significance as it blocks the depositions of toxic free cholesterol in the fractions of cell members. The cholesterol, which is absorbed by the intestine, is incorporated in chylomicrons, before this it undergoes the process of esterification...
