On May 14, 2020, the Australian government announced that it had officially put on hold the review for a new international development policy, originally announced in December 2019.The government was planning to release a long term international development policy. This was disrupted by COVID-19 and the government has instead released an interim two-year policy response calledPartnerships for Recovery. This policy forms the key strategy for Australia's aid program to respond to COVID-19 in the Indo-Pacific region.
COVID-19 has exposed the cracks in our societies. The pandemic provides a once in a generation opportunity to build back better, not just return to the status quo.Review thePartnerships for Recoveryreport (34 pages), and provide a 1000 word analysis that offers a critique. Consider how this new international development policy fits with Australia's 2020 aid budget; what are the positive elements of the policy and what do you consider to be the negative elements?
Note:
High grades will be awarded to those who draw on academic literature. Please reference your sources using either footnotes or intext referencing.References will not be included in the word count.
In researching your development blog, werecommend that you consider:
- Providing a brief context - Commenting on whether the proposed focus areas of the new Australian international development policy aligns with Australia's commitment to the Paris Declaration principles and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals - Embedding links to evidence, public commentary or other documents which support the points you wish to make
