ASSIGNMENT ON THEORY OF CHILD DEVELOPMENT
Introduction
    The concept of child development plays a key role in deciding upon his future in the coming period of time. There have been identified and discussed various theories of child development as coined by variety of child development theorists, including those of Freud, Erikson, and Vygotsky. Child development can be understood as a process of maturation that comprises of the stages such as that of infancy, early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescence (Oswalt, 2021). The theorist whose child development theory will be discussed in this assignment is that of Erik Erikson. These theories of child development have their focus towards explaining how children change and grow over the course of childhood that includes various aspects of development including social, emotional, and cognitive growth. 
Erik Erikson’s Stages of Child Development
    Erik Erikson is a known German-American developmental psychologist and theorist of child development whose theory about human psychological development and its dominant tensions has as the source of analyzing the factors that result into development of a child and his brain over a period of time depending upon various affecting factors. Erikson introduced the phrase ‘identity crisis’ in connection with adolescent development within his theory (McLeod, 2018).
