Everyday Object’ paper (20%) – No later than
Nov. 27 at 11:59pm, you will submit a short essay analyzing the political
economy of an everyday object of your choosing. A main reference for this
project will be the I-PEEL website. While you can choose an object that is
featured there, your analysis should not simply be a repetition of theirs. I
would instead encourage you to be inspired and guided by those examples, but to
choose your own object. We can think collectively in class about acceptable
objects, but the range is very wide! You should use at least 3 course readings
in your paper and a maximum of 3 external sources. The sources should be
relatively equally used (i.e., don’t primarily rely on one source, throwing the
others in on a superficial basis). As part of your analysis, you can reflect on
what the PE of your object says about the broader system of capitalism. I would
encourage you to draw on one or more theoretical approaches to political
economy we have examined in the course. Your paper should be in the range of
1200-1500 words.
Ex:
●
Political economy of vaccines?
●
How do property rights affect the environment?
●
can be an activity we do in
everyday life — reflection of the political economy in everyday life like
farmers markets or cleaning services
