Research the region(s) in each country and write an analysis of the current state of affairs there, as an example of what needs to be done to meet the SDG. · Devise a plan for meeting the requirements of the various targets in this SDG, with a timeline for completion by 2030. · Since meeting these targets requires the cooperation of the people who live in these countries/regions, identify what ethical perspective(s) you intend to work from, and how you intend to persuade (or coerce) them to cooperate. · Do include a comparison of the countries Kenya, Tunisia and Somalia to Canada, as they show the different clean water sanitation levels in Africa. Background
Clean water is a card
inal human necessity that must be widely available to everyone. This is attainable as there is adequate fresh water on the globe. Each year, millions of individuals—the majority of them children—suffer from disorders related to poor water supply, hygiene, and sanitation as a consequence of poor infrastructure, expenditure, and planning. Besides water supply, hygiene, and sanitation, Sustainable Development Goal 6 addresses the sustainability and quality of water assets, which are important to individuals and the planet's preservation (Bisung & Elliott, 2018).
This paper focuses on SDG 6 in Canada and Kenya; their relevant target achievements, analysis of contemporary positions on the affair, development of a plan to meet the target by 2030, ethical perspective, comparison with other nations, and some ethical considerations.
Target Achievement
In terms of sustainable development, Canada is ranked 20th worldwide. According to the report, Canada is falling behind on several of the SDG indicators. It states, for example, that after 2017, 67 indigenous and rural communities in the nation lacked accessibility to safe drinking water. Municipal sewer systems serve roughly 75 percent of Canadians when it comes to sanitation. Septic disposal systems supply the additional 25 percent of the populace. Wastewater treatment is either non-existent or inadequate in many instances (Essack, 2021).
In Kenya, only 58 percent populace has accessibility to basic drinkable water, and merely 30 percent possess accessibility to basic sanitation, indicating that access to sanitation and water has not remained in stride with populace growth. In 2020, 1,765 villages were certified as being free of public defecation. Kenya is also water-scarce, with an irregular distribution of accessible water throughout the nation and unpredictable rainfall, resulting in recurrent floods and droughts. Therefore, a multi-pronged paradigm combining funding and surveillance is required to recognise that aim (Halisçelik & Soytas, 2019).
Local Situation
Ontario has some of the cleanest water in Canada. The first stage in Ontario's approach to ensuring clean drinking water is to safeguard water at its sources. Following the awful events of the year 2000, Ontario took decisive steps to ensure that its drinking water was one of the finest safeguarded in the globe. While municipalities are responsible for providing sanitation and water services in Ontario, the federal and provincial governments also have essential functions in the areas of standard-setting, investigation, management of water resources, and economic regulation (Bressler & Hennessy, 2018).
In addition, Nairobi, Kenya, has comprehensive water quality surveillance protocols in place to ensure that the water it provides is safe for consumption. However, purified water is occasionally recontaminated before it enters the faucet due to significant network leaks and irregular delivery. However, Nairobi's sewerage system serves barely 40...
