Introduction
Francis Bacon was a philosopher and a writer, whose existence can be dated back to the 1600s. His peculiar fondness for knowledge saw him study several disciplines among them law, natural history and science. The works of Francis Bacon excites all scholars who have acquainted themselves with his work in spite of the nature of the discipline. His works on sciences are particularly more interesting, and dwell on the advancement of knowledge in the world of his time as well as the one before him (Bacon, 2002). He strikingly points out the importance of the inquisitive nature of scholars that has been prevented by false teachings. Of note, however, is the fact that these concepts are evidently practical in our lives today (Rayward, 2003). It is evident that Francis Bacon has indeed contributed to the fundamentals of the scientific thought.
Background Information on the Novum Organum
The terms, “Novum Organum” are Greek terms which translate to the “New Oragon”. In a simple term, Oragon means instruments used in a certain trade. Aristotle, who had designed a new oragon to replace the old one, imported the term from earlier references. In this literary piece, Francis Bacon delivered his thoughts about science using set of aphorisms rather than discussions. Despite this, his thoughts clearly indicated that, in order to develop basic principles, one required transitional principles founded on the some fundamental experiments plus a combination of procedural observations (“The Experimental Philosophy: Francis Bacon,” n.d). Francis Bacon’s literary piece on the “Novum Organum” was founded on three major concepts, which comprised of the Obstacles of Sciences, The Inductive Concept of Science as well as the Experimental Concept (“Francis Bacon: Novum Organum (1620)”, n.d.).
