I encourage all to have another person review your work before submission. Often a second set of eyes will catch errors you may overlook. Use separate paragraphs. No papers with one long paragraph. Do not use subheadings. Use transitions and topic sentences to move to new points of interest or emphasis.

Do not overly rely on outside sources for this essay. Outside sources should complement, not dominate, your paper. Filling up essays with outside sources when course materials are sufficient and available, tends to indicate that a student is not fully reading and reviewing what has been covered in the course, but relying on the internet to quickly supply source material. That is not where you want to be.

If citing from the class text, a page number at the end (not middle) of the sentence is fine. If using an outside source, cite within the essay by placing a footnote number (1, 2…) at the end of a sentence, then footnote at the bottom of the page or list it on an End Notes/Citation page.

Attach/upload your Word document (Blackboard has problems converting other formats) to the Blackboard assignment page. Do not write in the “Write Submission” or Comments section.

The soldiers were eager to fight alongside the whites as they understood the danger of the war and how it would affect the lives of people when one side won. It would only seem reasonable to join the army. Harry Jarvis, a former slave is an example of how eager the black man was to join the army to contribute to the war when he told an officer that it becomes a black man’s war when the other side got through (534). The black soldiers felt empowered and tasted freedom by offering their services to the military....
