(Q3. Black Studies are an Important Area of Academia)
Studying Blacks is an important area for academic, it teaches us about the human journey. The struggle of those people who came before us went through and their successes and failures along the way. As mentioned by King (2019), the problem with hiding a race's history, which has been done to black descendent people for centuries now, is that we all lose a piece of the puzzle that is needed to properly interpret the historical clues we have. To defy racism, we need to not only increase awareness but also knowledge and make black studies an important area.
Racism is not just a behavior or a natural psychological disposition. It is a belief of inherent superiority based on false perception and false knowledge of history. History can be many things from a source of mistakes to avoid and successes to emulate, evidence for one’s own philosophy of life, a trivia game of facts and dates. However reading American African history, we all need practice doing is switching perspectives and taking in new and unexpected ways of looking at things.
Black have lived and in many cases, continue to live, lives that have significant differences than those of the majority white population. Learning how African American culture developed, its heroes and tragedies and the constant strife as an outsider group with fewer rights, offers other Americans insights into a different America. As informed by King (2017), it is important for the modern society to know about all the facts and information to shape better future.
