ENG 412 Roads and Traffic Engineering Major Assignment (20 Marks) Due date – Thursday 30 May 2018 Note. If any plagiarism detected, you will get zero marks. Investigate options to improve performance Tambling Terrace, Wanguri BACKGROUND The existing three-leg roundabout intersection of Henbury Avenue and Tambling Terrace is currently experiencing congestion during AM peak hours with extensive queuing along Tambling Terrace. The substantial queuing issue has significant impact on the local residents accessing their properties. Figure 1- Locality Plan Queuing was observed on Tambling Terrace approach during morning peak hour. The maximum queue observed on the site extended to the bus stop before the Danimila Terrace/ Tambling Terrace roundabout as shown in Figure2. Figure 2- Queuing on Tambling Tce PROJECT SCOPE Given the poor existing performance of the Tambling Terrace/ Henbury Ave intersection, an assessment of potential intersection treatments including SIDRA Intersection modelling should be undertaken to address the capacity constraints and deliver safer intersection performance. The critical time for the assessment is the AM peak hour as no queues were formed on approaches to the roundabout during PM peak period. This could be due to the spread-out operation times for the nearby schools, hospital and the network peak hour.
