Annotated Bibliography
This semester we have been working on three areas that are essential to source based writing: research, documentation, and manuscript format. So far, we have been concentrating on one particular style of documentation, MLA. There are many different stylebooks that can be used for research, documentation, and manuscript format, and different areas of study typically gravitate toward a particular one. Therefore, to prepare for college level writing, one must not only be familiar with one certain stylebook, but familiar with following the chosen stylebook of a particular discipline, or sometimes, a particular class.
Assignment:For this assignment, we will be turning from MLA to APA style. The style set forth by the American Psychological Association, APA style, is most prominent in the socialand physicalsciences. It is similar to MLA in that it uses in-text citation and references at the end, but what is cited, and the format of references has many differences.
To learn to use this different style, we will be putting together anannotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography isa preliminary document—a document typically writtenbeforewriting a full research paper and oneusedby researchers to gather together andflesh outtheirresearch in a particular area. In essence, it is a way to find, organize, and read through resources to decide on the usefulness of these resources to a research project, all useful to doing successful source based writing.
For this project you must gather a minimum of ten references onourchosen topic of research, “is America the greatest country in the world”as introduced in the short clip fromThe Newsroom.You will be expected to reference each of these sources in APA style, and annotate them.
This project is similar to the project we have just completed, but instead of 10 separate areas of research, you now have one. The project expects a minimum of three print sources, and threenon-printsources. The other four sources can be of any type.
