EGR, exhaust gas recirculation, is often used to reduce NO, by acting as a diluent in the intake mixture.

(a) For low-temperature isooctane-air combustion products at 4 = 1.0, determine the percentage of the burned gases' average specific heat at constant pressure which comes from each component in the burned gas mixture.

(b) Compare the specific heat at constant pressure of isooctane-air combustion products at 4 = 1.0 to that of air, both at 1750 K. This difference is one reason why EGR instead of leaner fuel-air mixture is used to control NO, emissions.
