Impact of trade on wage and employment Discussion by Prof: Since you mention education, let me add that not only are universities in rich countries exporting their education services, as demonstrated by the large number of foreign students at UST and other US universities, but also some universities have heavily invested abroad (FDI). As a matter of fact, I find it interesting that we have so many foreign students from the GCC on our campus, while so many US universities are now present in the countries bordering the Persian Gulf. This is clearly a sign that there is a huge demand for education. My hope is that there will be skilled jobs available for those students when they return back home. Any comments from those of you who come from this part of the world? Discussion by student: You reminded me of a disputation debate between Arab countries and Iranians because of the name "persian Gulf". Since I was a child, I was taught that the gulf is called "Arabian Gulf". It wasn't until last year of high school when I relized that we're fighting to keep the name "Arabian gulf" on world mpas. You can take a look on this Wiki page to read more about this "fight": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persian_Gulf_naming_dispute#United_Nations . Anyways, yes I agree that there's a huge educational investment made by many Arabian countries, and specifically Gulf countries. However, that doesnt guarantee the availabilty of skilled jobs there. The guaranteed outcome out of this huge educational investment is that those graduates will highly compete against foreigners who are already occupying many high-skill jobs, especially managerial and engineering ones.

In case of Italy its firms would be more competitive in world markets if the currency were weaker, but
in case of international trade, especially with relation to import of goods and services in the present
globalized world, it becomes extremely essential that they have a strong currency.
