Introduction
This report is mainly aimed at identifying the management problem in respect to Qantas which has been the Australian airline company. A critical analysis with respect to the management problem
at Qantas is performed, and this is followed by decision making process which is aimed at resolving the problem faced by the company. Based on the analysis, the report will include a critical assessment of the alternatives that are available in dealing with the problems faced by Qantas and finally recommendations would be made.
Analysis of Managerial Issues at Qantas
An analysis of Qantas indicates that the managerial issue as faced by the airline is mainly with respect to management techniques and approach as adopted by CEO Allan Joyce for the purpose of managing the airline. The airline has been facing with significant level of loss over the past few years, and it is all because of the managerial inefficiency that has been noted especially in respect to Allan Joyce management. The management of the Qantas airline is currently in the private hands but the board has been inefficient which is evident in respect to the rising cost of operations of the company, and falling profitability. The airline is facing a heat from the domestic airline Virgin across Australian markets and the international market is also not that competitive to the organisation in terms of ensuring its efficient management (Satterlee, 2014).
It is not only the problem of cost management to Qantas, but the airline is also facing the problems in terms of its failing strategy. The airline is currently focused towards cutting down the cost of its operations, but this is not likely to solve the problem of failing strategy and declining profitability performance of the company. As for instance, Qantas is faced with the problem of generating paying customers and the repeat business. All this is mainly because of the inefficiency with the management and the board in making strategic decisions that could lead to higher organisational success (Davidson, 2014).
