Ethnocentrism
Ethnocentrism can be defined as the belief that describes one person’s group and culture.
It means a group and culture is more superior to another person or group. Along with this, it may
also be defined as a way by which human being critics another group from the point of view of
their own culture. Ethnocentrism also provides the method that group of people do something in
a normal way. On the other hand, ethnocentrism can also be considered as a natural source of
prejudice that has a picky impact on a person’s attitudes (Tanye, 2010). This can be escorted by
the feeling of scorn for other groups and cultures. Thus, ethnocentrism is a faith that says that
culture, racial group and society of one person is naturally better than others. Apart from this,
ethnocentrism also affects the perceptions among culturally diverse groups. For instance,
ethnocentrism has numerous negative penalties in communicating and creates a big obstacle in
intercultural communication.
At the same time, ethnocentrism believes that, the people use their cultural customs in the
social interaction so; it creates misunderstandings and miscommunication in their perception of
human being. Additionally, ethnocentrism not only affects the verbal and nonverbal message of
perception but also affects the perception of the source of message of culturally different groups.
On the other hand, it is also observed that, ethnocentrism describes that the culture, language and
religion of one person is better than another person, so it has a great impact on the perception of
the different cultural groups (Capucao, 2010). Additionally, it also generates a feeling in the
individual that the other culture is apparent as wrong and improper and then it becomes the
reason of stereotype for the group. In addition to this, it also has a direct or indirect impact on the

awareness of the people because of an ethnocentric person thinks superior with values and habits
of other people and therefore the human being delight poorer and it also increases the distance
between groups and also affect the perception of culturally diverse groups.

Socio-Political Factors and Ethnic Group
There are several socio-political factors that are encountered by White ethnic groups of
European descent. For instance, prejudice, unemployment, media influences, high crime
environments, accommodation, dishonor and discrimination etc. are the some major factor that
encountered by White ethnic groups of European descent (Sislin & Pearson, 2001). In addition to
this, unemployment and prejudice were the key factor of European descent.
These socio-political factors have a great impact on the population of European descent.
For example, these factors were influencing the mental health of the people. Community,
families and individual were facing several problems due to unemployment. There was a
situation of stress in the European decent and people have lost their confidence in the condition
of unemployment. Apart from this, the prejudice and discrimination factor also influencing the
life of people (Grinnell & Unrau, 2010). These factors have created social and emotional tension
in the young as well as children. On the other hand, prejudice was generating fear and anxiety as
well as enmity and violence in the people. People of European decent have lost their self-esteem
and self-confidence in the prejudice environment.
In the same manner, there was a high crime environment, so people were unable to
perform their duties and responsibilities in an effective and appropriate manner. These socio-
political factors were influencing the standard of life and values of people also. Apart from his,
due to the criminal environment, public of European decent were losing their confidence level

and it also affects the emotional development of the people. The other socio-factors such as:
accommodation and dishonor also plays a vital role in order to affect the life of the European
people. The public of European decent has not housed for their safety (Sislin & Pearson, 2001).
On the other hand, lack of respect also influencing the life of the population. Thus, the people of
European decent were unsafe or unsecure for their accommodation, respect and standard of life.
