Step 1: Identify an appropriate company.

• Generally speaking, private companies should be avoided for the purposes of this project. This is because it is very difficult to gain access to the amount of information and data necessary to do all that is required. You will want to make sure your company is listed in the Mergent and IBISWorld databases and are able to locate detailed financial information on the company. For the most part, you should be safe with most publicly traded companies.

Step 2: Check the list of already chosen companies.

• Companies may only be chosen by one person. Company choices will be established on a first-come; first-serve basis. I will have an updated listed posted in this module with the current company selections.

Step 4: Company Background.

• Write a general background summary of your company that introduces the company and why you have chosen to study it.


• Your summary MIGHT include some combination of the following:




• Brief company history.


• Brief introduction the company's products/services and the industry that it competes in.


• Any key issues the company is currently facing - have they been in the news?


• Why you find the company interesting and what you hope to learn by studying it.

Step 5:
Submit your written summary to me for critique via the "Submit Assignment" option at the top of this page.

• Submissions should be a single Microsoft Word file.


• Use any tables or graphics that you feel are appropriate to support your analysis.


• Any information (including data tables) used from an external source should properly cited using APA Style.
