Peer Support Group Reflection Paper For this assignment students should attend a self-help group related in some way to addiction. The point is for students to attend meetings with which they are unfamiliar. *Your reflection paper should be from first person point of view: I, your thoughts, your feelings, etc. Some acceptable types of self-help groups include: · SMART recovery · Any variety of Twelve step meeting (e.g. NA, AA, CODA, SAA, GA, etc.) · Any variety of Twelve step meeting for persons affected by another’s addiction (e.g. Al-Anon, or anon- for other addictions) · Life Ring · Sixteen step meetings · Any alternate pre-approved by your instructor Your instructor is one source of information about meetings in the community, but students should also take responsibility for their own research. A quick Google search using the name of your town or city plus “self help”, “addiction meetings” and the like should turn up intriguing possibilities.

Personal Reflection
I recently attended a SMART recovery group for individuals with addiction issues.
I was initially nervous about attending the meeting, but I was also excited to hear about other people's experiences and to share my friend’s story. As I entered the room, I noticed that there were around fifteen individuals present, ranging from young adults to older individuals. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, which made me feel at ease.
The facilitator began the meeting by introducing himself and explaining the purpose of the group. He then asked if anyone would like to share their story or their current situation. I was hesitant to speak up at first, but as I listened to others share, I realized that this was a safe and non-judgmental space.
When it was my turn, I spoke about my friend’s struggles with alcohol addiction and how it affected his personal and professional life. I shared his fear of relapse and his desire to find healthy coping mechanisms. It received a lot of support and encouragement from the...
