The internet Protocol (IP) is a transmission process used by the TCP IP protocols, whereas the network access layer define that how data is transmitted physically whether optically signal or electrically.
IP transport data packets in called datagrams which is transmitted one by one and contain source and destination address, mobile network access layer transport the data with the help of physical medium such as coaxial cable, Optical Fibre or twisted pair cables.
IP (Internet Protocol), RARP (Reverse Address Resolution Protocol, ARP (Address Resolution Protocol), ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol), IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol) are the protocol included in IP layer, whereas the network access layer include protocol such as Ethernet, x.25, Frame relay FDDI, Network Interface Protocol.
In IP layer, packet switching network depend on a wirelessly internetwork layer. It's work is to deliver data independently to the destination simultaneously, In network access layer, the data is transmitted over physical medium when it is free from traffic. Otherwise when two host place their data on same medium data will collide and will get destroyed and need to be retransmitted.
Some of the control mechanism included in network access layer and IP layer are :
Flow control: The rate at which the receiver receive the data is less than that of the rate at which it transmitted flow control mechanism will help the receiver to recover that data.
Error control: It is used for reconstruction, transmitting and recovery for lost information.
Access control: At time, when more than one devices are connected to the network it is necessary to determine which devices has control over the link network.
Congestion control: When network is carrying so much of data that leads to fall its quality of service, network layer provide different algorithm to avoid this congestion.
