Hemochromatosis
1.
· The disease name is hemochromatosis.
· The first known case of the disease was reported by French doctor Trousseau in 1865 who described a new syndrome, which involves diabetes, pigmented live cirrhosis and bronze colored skin.
· This disease was named as bronze diabetes. In 1889, German scientist named the diseases as 1889. In 1935, it has been established that disease is inherited.

· In early stage, symptoms are not visible.
· Some of the most common symptoms include chronic fatigue and joint pain.
· Some people have pain in their knuckles, which is also known as iron fist.
· Other symptoms include memory fog, lack of energy; loss of sex drive, abdominal pain, heat flutters; loss of body hair, weakness, weight loss, and abdominal coloring of skin (Piperno, Bertola & Bentivegna, 2020).

· Hemochromatosis is a disorder in which an individual body stores very high amount of iron.
· The cause of the iron overloading in the body can be due to diseases such as thalassemia, anemia, chronic alcoholism, and other conditions (Parker & Khafaf, 2019).
· Iron overloaded can be due to hereditary disorder, which can be inherited from the parents. It is also known as hereditary hemochromatosis.
· Defect of gene called HFE gene is also responsible of the diseases.

· This disease mainly affects the men.
· The symptoms usually appear in men between the age of 30 and 50.
· Women usually do not show the symptoms before the age of 50 as women usually lose iron from the blood loss of menstruation and childbirth.
· Higher risk can be observed in only those people who can inherit it from their parents, as it is hereditary.

· Around 10% of the Caucasian American suffered from this disease. It is most common hereditary diseases in the United States of America.
· Around 1 of every 12 Caucasian American is carrier of disease as they consist of around 1 copy of the defective gene
· Around 5 of every 1000 people consists of 2 copies of the defective genes.

· Hereditary hemochromatosis often remains undiagnosed.
· It has been seen that high iron levels in blood during routine blood tests can lead to the diagnosis of the disease (IJsselstijn, van Houten & Weerkamp, 2017).
· The diagnosis can be done by physical examination and history examination. During physical examination, change in the skin color is observed.
· Another test is blood test. During blood test, amount of iron present in the body is measured.
