  • Identify three Websites that you plan to use for your research on a paper to convince. When evaluating, think of yourself as an investigative reporter who is checking the claims of a politician who used the sources in his or her proposed bill. Identify the Website and its URL. Evaluate each Website regarding the following:
    1. Targeted audience
    2. Updating of information
    3. Use of professional peer reviews
    4. Information’s accuracy, relevance, and thoroughness

  • As a business person or politician, assume you are talking to your staff. Provide three reasons they should use the highest-quality sources when developing persuasive papers for the public and clients.


Assignment 2: Research Proposal – Thesis, Major Points, and Plan

Select a topic on which your persuasive writing paper will be focused.
Write a one to two (1-2) page research proposal in which you:

  • Identify the genre you selected and explain two (2) reasons for using it.

  • Include a defensible, relevant thesis statement in the first paragraph.

  • Describe three (3) major characteristics of your audience (official position, decision-making power, current view on topic, other important characteristic).

  • Describe the paper’s scope and outline the major sections.

  • Identify and explain the questions to be answered.

  • Explain your research plan, including the methods of researching and organizing research.

  • Develop a coherently structured paper with an introduction, body, and conclusion.

  • Document at least three (3) primary sources and three (3) secondary sources. Use credible, academic sources available through Strayer University’s Resource Center.


Your assignment must follow these formatting guidelines:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required page length.


The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Recognize the elements and correct use of a thesis statement.

  • Write a research proposal that states the claim and scope of the research project.

  • Outline the main sections of the research project.

  • Devise an ordered research plan to obtain appropriate resources.

  • Write clearly and concisely about selected topics using proper writing mechanics.

  • Use technology and information resources to research selected issues for this course.

These websites provide lot of data for proposal of a medical related bill. Each of these
websites have been evaluated on the basis of several factors which include targeted audience,
updating information, use of professional peer reviews and information’s accuracy, relevance,
and thoroughness.
The cdc.gov website is targeted at the public of USA for the purpose of accessing
information relevant to medical statistics with relevance to USA. The information is regularly
updated and it uses primary sources of data, thus making the information extremely reliable and
accurate. It provides data from several sources and the information is relevant to the health
aspects. The information is thorough in all aspects. There is no use of professional peer reviews.
The who.int website is targeted at a global audience. The information is updated based on
global statistics. There are several professional peer reviews and the information though not as
accurate and thorough, is highly relevant.
The nlm.nih.gov website is also a professional website targeted at the health sector of
USA. This website is an extremely credible one with rapidly updated information which is
accurate, reliable and thorough. Moreover there are several professional peer reviews which help
understand and analyze the information better.
