The French writer, Émile Zola, claimed that the Impressionists were selling sketches that
are hardly dry. Identify an example of an Impressionist painting that represents Zola’s
description.
The Impressionists’ works were often characterized by astounding colors and use of
swift
brush strokes. But these two traits give their works a feeling of being careless and unfinished.
Several critics including Emile Zola criticized the paintings of the impressionists to be
incomplete and shoddy. Zola even commented that Impressionists were actually advertising
paintings that can hardly be termed as dry. To exemplify Zola’s criticism one can undoubtedly
bring forward the painting “Impression, Sunrise” by the renowned Impressionist Monet. The
harbor of Le Havre and the view of a sunrise from the location is the subject of the painting. The
essence of the painting can be noticed in the usage of the loose brush strokes. Next to the dawn
the sun has been set and its orange hue has been set next to the spreading gray. The motionless
surrounding is depicted to exemplify the vivacious force of the sun. But it may seem that the
luminance of the sun is nearly same as that of the gray clouds and this void of color contrast
earned the painting some notable criticisms.

progresses in the realm of internet. The fact that websites are now considered as artwork is not to
be taken as a concept not known to everyone. The emergence and development in the field of net
