This suggests that the existing nation-state system of will eventually prove to be insufficient to govern an increasingly interconnected world. Given what you've learned about Intergovernmental Organizations this week, do you agree or disagree?

Discussion 1- Intergovernmental organizations and global governance
Intergovernmental organizations are organizations that are established through collaboration
of several nations. They traverse boundaries and are not under the governance of any single country. This makes these organizations unique and different from all other organizations. Examples of intergovernmental organizations are UN, NATO, G8 etc.
Intergovernmental organizations have been in place for quite some time. Each organization has shown variable degree of success without global governance. So, I believe the status quo can be maintained and things can continue without the need for global governance if each nation-state abides by the ideals of democracy and mutual respect for other nations.
When intergovernmental organizations establish themselves, they usually do so for some particular interest. These interests maybe financial, economical or military with each country entering into the organization for fulfilling some sort of interest. Since self-interest is the primary reason for intergovernmental organizations establishment there is no need for global governance essentially. Countries continue to remain in intergovernmental organizations so long as their interest is met and are free to leave when their interests are not (Reinalda, & Verbeek, 2003).
While it is true that many intergovernmental organisations have emerged in the recent years, they tend to keep each other in check. So the influence of one intergovernmental organisation does not tend to cross its sphere of interest. Many nations today are part of several...
