Legalization of marijuana is one of the most debatable questions globally and U.S is no exception. One of the major arguments against the legalization of marijuana is the fact that, ‘it is a gateway drug’ that is, it can precede the initiation of other illicit drug use among consumers and can become a gateway for delocalization of drugs within this society. Firstly, it would be essential to understand that gateway drugs are introductory substances, which are habit forming and paves the way for more severe drug consumption (The Opinion Pages— Room for Debate).
However, I agree with this point of view because marijuana being a recreation drug is very common among youngsters. Consumption of marijuana or smoking pot leads to feeling the ‘high’, which youngsters demand and with regular consumption, they develop resistance against it (YouTube). Thus, marijuana consumers or pot smokers seek much stronger alternatives in order to reach the same level of ‘high’, which drives them towards illicit drugs such as cocaine, heroin and opium, which justifies that marijuana is a...
