Conception of Development
Development is the process of growth in order to acquire positive and progressive change. The components, which enhance and affect the procedure of development, are many such as economic, environmental, social, emotional, demographical, geographical, climatic and other global factors. In human beings, development is the growth process, from their birth to death. There are many theories of development that give a brief ideology that development includes the biological, intellectual, social, emotional and cognitive development (Boyd & Bee, 2015). Development usually means progression of something towards betterment.
Relevance of Gender

Gender is considered to be an important entity of the development, especially the social development. According to World Development Report, gender is defined by the norms constructed by society and the behavioral actions and capability of men and women according to the ideologies established in the society (United Nations, 2014). According to Freud’s theory of psychosexual development, gender in a human being is defined from its birth itself.
The psychosexual development is achieved throughout the five stages of development in the life span. The physical traits define the gender. Gender equality is considered to be the vital part for a sustainable development of a society or nation. However, as argued by Kanhere et al. (2015), since the beginning of the civilization, gender inequality has been existing and it is already playing a significant part to inhibit development. For example, the third world or the under developed countries show most of the unjust definitions of gender discrimination in political, social and economic sectors.
Critiques of Traditional Development Approaches from Gender Inclusion Perspective
The provision of resources to women in such countries are comparably less. Thus, it reflects in negligible growth trend in the social, economic, and personal development in such countries. Traditionally, the gender role defined the responsibilities of men and women according to their physical traits. However, as criticized by Sarker (2006), this theory strictly defined the roles of men and women and gave ways to the notion that women are subordinate to men and less capable in many aspects.
