1. Discuss some negative outcomes for adopted children, as presented in the research. Do
you think that all adoptees have more negative outcomes than non-adopted children?
Explain your answer.
As per the research outcomes it has been observed that adopted children are exposed to different
types of educational, psychological and behavio
ral problems. It has been diagnosed that adopted
children usually faces difficulties in learning, attention deficit disorder, lower academic
performance, school related behavior issues, lack of social competency. Certain specific
psychological problems which has been observed in adopted children is that such child are prone
to emotional and personality problems and usually overrepresented in clinical environment.
Although most of the research represents the similar conclusion that adopted children
faces more difficulties in coping with new situation and usually confront personality and
psychological growth related issues, but certain researches have also propounded that stated
conclusion seems denied at least in case of adopted adolescents. It has been observed that
adopted adolescents show relatively higher confidence, control and positive attitude towards
their parents (considering them as comforting, nurturing and protectively concerned).

2. Discuss ways in which genetic abnormalities can affect the course of a child’s
development. How might adaptive behaviors be affected? How might genetic abnormalities
affect a child in terms of heredity-environment correlations?
Most of the researchers believe that child development usually been effected by the complex
relation between the nature (genetic background of the child) and nurture (surrounding
environment) components. It has been acknowledged that certain aspects of the development are

highly influenced by the biological constraints, while environmental influencers also plays
critical role in it. An onset of puberty is usually considered to be resultant of heredity, while
environmental factors like nutrition can exert significant effect.
Genetic interaction sometimes contain conflicting information, where either one wins the
battle or cause additive effect, such as a child having one tall and one short parent may end up
being of an average height person. Another significant aspect of child growth is the gene-
environment interaction, which projects that surrounding environment of child also influences
that how genes are expressed. For example, while in utero high exposure to harmful drugs can
put significant influence on the later growth of the child.

3. Discuss the prenatal surgical procedure, as presented in the reading assignment “The
Smallest Patient.” Do you think that there could be a negative side to saving babies who
have defects? Explain your answer.
The prenatal surgical procedure involves execution of surgical process to treat the complex
abnormalities of the fetus, which remain inside the pregnant uterus. The process adopted by the
surgeons in the case of “The Smallest Patient” initiates with giving doses of anesthesia to both
mother and fetus, after that insertion of needle from uterus to that of the fetus’s...
