Behaviors and Characters of Belbin’s Theory relating to Theories by Hofstede, Tuckman, Aristotle, Gantt and Kolb’s Reflective Cycle
The concept and characteristics of Belbin's team role were discovered by Dr. Meredith Be
lbin along with his team. This particular theory was evolved in order to identify and apply the talents of the team members by engaging them in different activities. It is not only helpful to lead the organization towards the functional improvement but also it creates a bonding and good understanding among the workers and develops their performance standard to full potential. In this scenario, the behaviors of the components play a significant role to indicate the effectiveness of the team role. Within a team of any type of organization, each of the team members is supposed to perform specific roles and responsibilities, on which the organizational success greatly depends. Through inspiring and co-operating one another within a team, the purpose and objectives of the organization are satisfyingly met.
As per the character of team role and functioning, Belbin has classified it into three specific segments, such as People Oriented, Action-Oriented and Thought Oriented (Lynch, Lynch and Clemens, 2018). Each of the team roles signifies the behavioral as well as interpersonal efficiency of the team members. The coordinator, team worker, and resource investigator belong to the People-Oriented whereas Action Oriented includes implementer, shaper and completer-finisher. Similarly, there are a specialist, plant, and monitor-evaluator in Thought Oriented roles. The characteristics and behaviors of each of the segments regarding the team role differ from one another based on their strengths, weaknesses and other aspects as follow:
Coordinator: The coordinator within an organization is confident and matured to clarify the organizational objectives and also to identify the preferred talent of the employees for the organizational benefit. Even they also professionally execute the organizational plan into action through hard work and in a disciplined way. However, sometimes they become engaged in manipulation that creates a negative impact on their team role.
Team worker: A team worker is responsible to provide necessary support to the organizational people to ensure the fact that the team is performing their roles together. They are perceptive, helpful and respect the versatility of the work through listening. Although they may become confused in...
