The difference between value and price is as follows:
1. Value is the worth of any given services or product whereas the pri
ce is the payment done for a
given service or product.
2. We can measure the value in physical terms, emotional terms, financial terms, or in numbers of
other ways but price is generally measured in monetary terms only. E.g. you bought a book for
$300 which inspired you to invent a new product that can be sold for $100. So its value is $100*
Number of books you sell on the other hand price of the book is what you have paid for the book
i.e., $300.
3. In terms of finance, Value of the asset is a fair value of future cash flows that is expected to be
generated by that asset after deducting all expenses and investment and then calculating the price
based on that cash flows on the other hand price of an asset is the market price of that given asset
at which the investor is ready to buy the asset.
Value of the asset can be calculated by two methods
a) Payback Analysis
b) Discounted cash flow Analysis
4. Warren Buffet clearly stated the difference in one line i.e., Price is what you pay. Value is what
you get.
