Introduction
Amidst the turmoil and dilemmas faced by the healthcare delivery system of the country,
the present conditions of several community hospitals have been observed to be wretched. Lack
of proper alignment between those community hospitals’ goals, objectives and strategies has
eventually resulted in their downfall. Moreover, legal turmoil and legislative dilemmas coupled
with lack of proper leadership and lack of proper assessment of the internal and external
environments in which those hospitals operate have also added to the decline in their service and
administration quality. But it is in the middle of such bleak conditions that the name of Martin
Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital deserve special mention primarily because the hospital
has, till date, proved itself to be an embodiment of all those strategic and operational principles
that community hospitals should follow in order to cope with and overcome challenges that the
present healthcare environment of the country have to offer.
Goals of the Organization
The success of an organization largely relies on the clarity of its goals and objectives.
And this truth has been thoroughly embodied by Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital
(MLKCH). The primary goal of the organization is ingrained in its mission statement which
states that MLKCH strives to “provide compassionate, collaborative, quality are and improve the
health of our community” (Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital, 2017). It can be
observed that like any other socially responsible healthcare organization, the pivotal objective of
MLKCH is to provide thorough care and service to the community members who are in need of
extensive care infused with love and compassion. The hospital is in the quest of sustaining its

leadership position in the sphere of community healthcare and MLKCH has, till date, been able
to represent itself as a leading model in terms of innovation, collaboration, and appropriate care-
giving within the context of community healthcare (Martin Luther King, Jr. Community
Hospital, 2017). The hospital also strives to sustain its market reputation for being a community
hospital that runs on the principles of caring, collaboration, respect, excellence, and
accountability to each and every stakeholder (Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital,
