Determine the diameter of a hydrogen filled balloon to support a total of 1 kg at a location where the density of air is 0.8 kg/m3 and that of the hydrogen in the balloon is 0.08 kg/m3. The weight that can be supported equals the difference in weights of air and hydrogen.

9.81 × 1 = (4/3) × π × r3
× (0.8 – 0.08) × 9.81, Solving r = 0.692 m

D = 2r = 1.384 m
