Despite these clarifications, the disproportionate number of XYYs in prison remains a nagging issue. But even if it is resolved by the discovery of an accompanying individual problem—such as slow intellectual development—it is obvious that only a minute portion of crime will be thus explained. Or will it? What about the majority of XYYs who lead lawabiding lives? It is unlikely that a chromosomal arrangement can ever clearly distinguish any group, however small, that will inevitably be involved in deviance.
