1. Introduction
The purpose of this report is to select a case study from the numbers of case studies that are provided. For the same purpose, the case study of Marion & Evan & Sean is selected. Based on this case study this report will display what services will be provided to this family as a social worker and from an organizational context. Besides, this report will also use theories and model such as anti-oppressive theory, ecological system theory, attachment theory and others to understand that case study in a proper manner. In the end, the approaches that I should take as a caregiver will be demonstrated based on what I have found by aligning several theories with the case study.
2. The social work/practitioner role and the likely organizational context of the service/s involved in the case study
In the selected case study of “Marion & Evan & Sean” the role of a social worker or the service involved would the role of a "family support worker." A family support worker is a caregiver individual who helps parents and children with a range of social and individual problems. Family support workers also specialize in areas such as domestic abuse, bereavement or homelessness (Pecora, 2018). My role within the selected case would be supporting the service users such as Marion, Evan and Sean in empowering them so that they can deal with several issues and risks and my role also would be ensuring the safety of Sean.
In terms of organizations, my role would be involving the Child Protection Service and the local police department to ensure proper family care service is provided to the family with full integrity and honesty. The Child Protection Care will be involved to ensure Sean remains harmless and local police department will be involved to take prompt actions in case Evan again practices domestic violence on Maria or on Sean (Higgins, 2017).
3. Who is your primary client and consideration their significant others when working in partnership in this case
While working as a family support worker with the family of Marion, my primary client will be Sean as my primary goal would be to ensure the safety of Sean from his father Evan who is a drug addict and has a record of threatening and abusing Marion and Sean at several occasions. However, as I will work as a family support worker, my significant others would be Marion and Evan. While working for this family I will play a major role in ensuring that Evan does not get addicted to drugs again and Marion can accept the fact that Evan will live with the family together. I will also sometimes contact the friends and other peers of the family to visit this family regularly to ensure the development of a positive and normal family environment.
4. What are your initial thoughts about the case study and what you would take into consideration preparing to work with the people in the case study?
After going through the case study, as a family support worker, I would consider three major factors while preparing to work with Marion, Evan and Sean.
First of all, if the condition of Marion is considered who was abused by her drug addict husband and second father, it can be stated that she will not like the idea of Evan again living with Sean. Marion experienced too much abuse in her entire life and thus does not believe that Evan will stop abusing Marion in the future. She also fears that Evan in the future will abuse Sean and Sean will also have the same fate that Marion had. In this condition, my role will be convincing Marion that Sean as a child will need support and involvement of Evan. If Sean does not get guidance or involvement of his father then he will have a problematic childhood that would cause a mental or attitudinal problem in him in the future.
In terms of Evan, my consideration would be ensuring Evan does not start taking drugs in the future. If Evan starts taking drugs in the future, then he will definitely abuse his family, mostly Marion. Therefore, I will have to suggest him methods such as medication, behavioral counseling and detoxification to restrain himself from taking drugs in the future. Besides, I will also suggest him to acquire “long-term follow-up” that will help Evan to prevent relapse and will help him to maintain sobriety. Besides, my role also would be to remind Evan about the...
