Communication Techniques
Some communication techniques are needed at this stage because it is essential to ascertain the patient's history to assess the data and comprehend his condition. The technique that would benefit is being empathetic and open-minded and to ask clear questions. Being empathetic will assist the health professional in providing an atmosphere that will be beneficial to Angelo. In general, a patient suffering from a me
ntal disorder is socially awkward and feels uncomfortable participating in any conversation (Rønning & Bjørkly, 2019).
The nurse's acknowledgement and encouragement will make Angelo feel more at ease in expressing his views. Being clear with Angelo is the best way to gain a clear understanding of his feelings. A clear question creates a clear picture in the patient's mind, eliminating any confusion. Several questions at once would make Angelo feel more confused and uneasy; it would also enable him to avoid responding to the questionnaire, which is critical for the health professional to comprehend the causes of his psychological condition. Asking about when specific incidents occurred in relation to other incidents can help Angelo and the nurses gain a better understanding of the big picture (Ritonga et al., 2020).
Asking clearly compels clients to consider the chain of circumstances and would inspire them to recognize things they wouldn’t have memorised otherwise. Additionally, actively listening is another technique, as it would allow both Angelo and the nurse to think about and prepare for what comes next in the communication. It would be beneficial to not talk at all at certain moments. It may deliver clients with the space and time they need to communicate a novel subject. Nurses should always enable patients to break the silence. Giving recognition is crucial. Recognition concedes and illustrates a patient's behaviour without directly commending it (Xue & Heffernan, 2021).
A person with a psychiatric condition, often has had a difficult past that has caused them to live with conditions such as depression and others. It is critical for the patient to feel and comprehend that the health professional is open-minded to critically analyse everything. This would motivate the individual to communicate his difficult truth with the assurance that the nurse practitioner understands his condition and will not chastise him as a consequence. Understanding Angelos’s past will help him know the causative factors of the psychiatric condition he is currently experiencing (Ritonga et al., 2020).
Based on the above consideration, it can be concluded that the nurse's communication techniques, including being empathetic, open-minded, and clear, would aid him in communicating and sharing his feelings. Thus, using these communication techniques may create a safe space for Angelo to communicate his history while also assisting the nurse in understanding him to document his clinical history (Rønning & Bjørkly, 2019).

Depression is a condition that impacts the mood as well as the capacity to function. Depression can have complex symptoms that differ considerably from individual to individual. Individuals feel hopeless and sad and feel no interest in activities that they used to relish whenever they are experiencing depression (Xue & Heffernan, 2021). The symptoms persist for months or weeks and are severe adequately to disrupt someone's work, family life, and social life (Planchez et al., 2019). Psychological symptoms include continued sadness and low mood, feeling helpless and hopeless, poor self-esteem, being tearful, guilt-ridden, and intolerant and irritable of other individuals, feeling no interest or motivation in anything, finding it difficult to make decisions, not finding pleasure in life, feeling worried or anxious, experiencing suicidal thoughts as well as impulses to self-harm (Alexopoulos, 2019).
Moreover, physical symptoms include speaking or moving at a slower pace than usual, changes in weight or appetite, constipation, unusual aches or pains, low energy, poor sexual drive, and disturbed sleep. For instance, having trouble falling asleep or not feeling fresh when waking up in the morning (Planchez et al., 2019). Social symptoms include disliking talking to friends and engaging in some societal events, neglecting interests and hobbies, and having problems at work, at home, or in family life (LeMoult & Gotlib, 2019).
