Describe the ways in which power is dependent on the individual leader, the reaction of followers, and the context of the situation. Think back to the discussion of charismatic leaders in Chapter 12. How do charismatic leaders gain interpersonal power? In what ways can they abuse this power? Consider the four primary sources of personal power—expertise, effort, attractiveness, and legitimacy. Is one aspect more important than another? Consider leaders that you respect. Which aspect of power was most appealing to you?
