Describe the structure and function of the forelimbs and hind limbs of the frog.

The bones present in the forelimb of frog follow the fundamental arrangement which is
termed as; ‘pentadactyl’. For instance; humerus bone could be observed in its upper arm while,
carpals, metacarpals, and phalanges bones might be seen in the wrist and hand. Besides, the
radius and ulna are the bones of frog’s forearm which get fused and can form radioulna. A
specific feature of frog’s forelimb is that in it, fifth digit which is also known as; thumb is very
short. (Sargis, 2001)
In the same way, the critical plan of a pentadactyl limb is also followed by its hind limb
in which, two bones tibia and fibula fuse and form the tibiofibula. In addition, talus, calcaneus,
metatarsals and phalanges form its feet. But in hind limb, all the digits are of proper size unlike
forelimb. (Emerson, 1991)
