In the segregationist regime the African American people were segregated based on the skin colour. The blacks were restricted to separate residence or institutions, schools, churches, restaurants, parks and playgrounds and for the usage of various other facilities on the basis race. In the 1950s due to the Jim Crow Act in the Southern states of United States there was legal segregation of the blacks for the usage of various public facilities. The steps that were taken to overcome these issues were the rise of the civil right movement initiated by the Southern blacks in the 1950s and 1960s. This was to break the customary model of the racial segregation. It resulted in the spur for passing of Civil Rights Act of 1964.
