Wal-Mart is a big name in multi brand department stores. The industry itself rem
ains hot
because of excessive competition. Price wars and promotions keep things busy for the
people associated with the industry. We can say this is one industry which is never
devoid of innovation and creativity. They always come up with fascinating deals and
inquisitive words to attract customers and induce of-the-shelf buying.
Currently the industry is stable with big players enjoying their economics and having a
comfort level with a segment of their choice. Carrefour, Target and Costco being the
other big competitors have always tried to pull down WMT dominance by offering
convenience and experience as USP. Wal-Mart has always believed in only one
strategy across the globe. They follow and promote only “Every Day Low Pricing
(EDLP)” model to maintain their supremacy on their competitors. Wal-Mart too
experimented with modern technology and tried a Local Facebook campaign which
actually did not work as per the expectations of the company. (McGee, 2012)
