Denzel is a counselor who offers online counseling through his web page. Denzel uses several forms of synchronous counseling through the telephone, instant messaging, chat rooms, and Skype. During the course of one session, while talking with a client who has struggled with chronic depression, the client states he is suicidal. The client reports that he has a plan, the means (a gun), and the intent, to kill himself within the next few minutes to an hour. While Denzel routinely collects data on his clients such as address and phone number, to his dismay he discovers that the information the client has given him about his physical location is incorrect. While Denzel has the client’s correct name and billing address due to the client using a credit card to pay for Denzel’s services, the billing address is a post office box and not a physical location.
