ABSTRACT:
A decision support system is a computer based information system that supports business or organizational decision-making activities. This type of support system serves the management team, operations and planning levels of an organization, usually middle and higher management teams and help people make decisions about problems that may be rapidly changing and not easily specified in advance through unstructured and semi-structured decision problems. Decision support systems can be either fully information technology based or human driven or a mix of both options. DSS helps in better decision making and faster processing of data to be analysed for better evaluation for either organisation or businesses in modern world. This also helps to identify negative trends and helps to eliminates the wastes in a decision making framework and hence increases the revenues and profit margins from businesses.

There are three major components of decision management systems, namely, database, software systems and the user interface.
