Thick Description of Text Analysis
Thick description is the first task in the qualitative analytic cycle and forms the foundation of data analysis. It allows the researcher to examine issues from many angles – their connections to other issues, nuances, and even perspectives of the participants (Hennink et al., 2011). Thick description is fundamental to understanding the meaning behind behaviors, or for conceptualizing or explaining behavior. Thick description concerns itself with examining behavior according to depth, breadth, context, and nuance (Hennink et al, 2011). The best example of thick description in text analysis involved a study I examined several months ago, focused on parents’ behaviors and comments during soccer games. The study I selected was an analysis of parents’ behaviors and comments during their sons’ grassroots football matches through the 2016-2017 football season. A total of twelve teams from the 2ndcategory of U-15 league in the Balearic Islands were observed through twelve recordings. Management, pressure, comprehension, and active participation comments were areas of focus. Fathers, mothers, relatives and spectators participated in the study and all participant clubs were chosen randomly to extrapolate conclusions and results to all kinds of sports clubs (Palou et al., 2020). Comments were coded by trained observers using LINCE recording software and POISE (Parents’ Observation Instrument at Sports Events). Parental comments were sorted into the following three categories: Positive Comments (POS), Neutral Comments (NT), and Negative Comments (NGT). Positive Comments included positive reinforcement, respectful comments, and applause. Neutral Comments mentioned weather, general comments about the school, or general silence. Negative Comments included negative reinforcement, insults, and boos. Two independent coders/observers classified the registered comments through a camcorder’s sound, which were defined by the POISE. Coders/observers coded the different type of comments using LINCE, allowing that results could be extrapolated to EXCEL for the last recounting (Palou et al., 2020). Statistical analyses were performed, and the mean of total comments, as well as comments per minute were calculated, as well as respective percentages. Through examining data from the lens of depth, breadth, context, and nuance, researchers can use thick description to arrive at deeper, more insightful conclusions through the study of connections and relationships between issues.

The ancient Greek aphorism is inscribed in the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. Knowing oneself is not only an important quest in life. It is THE fundamental quest that will allow you to realize yourself. If we do not know who we are, what inspires us, and our moral character, we will be unable to have a fulfilling life because we will merely follow what others tell us to do. And we can only reach true happiness when we fulfill our nature by realizing it in the work we do and our relationships.
Although, from the text, we can infer that we need all to ignore the ego and operate authentically and communicate with any organization (speculation due to inference). I believe the Professor predicted her death or knew that she was near the end, which she posted. At any rate, this confused most of us in the course.
Communication is critical in any organization. Managers should focus on employees' actions and individual performance (Ganschow, 2018, p. 48). Effective communication between leadership and subordinates helps establish clear and consistent expectations upfront to avoid employee disengagement. Company goals should be clear to everyone in the organization. Every individual should be able to view plans and progress at any time. Employees should know how their objectives align with the business and how they make a significant impact. Managers must communicate with star employees, provide coaching, and keep them engaged with an established plan in place.
