D. The “Journey”Theme in Southern Gothic Literature2 or 3 page PAPER
(1) The more we learn about Southern Gothic characters, the more we recognize that they do not fit the traditional mold. However we can still apply traditional literary themes to the works we have read (and viewed) this Semester. For one thing each protagonist (or antagonist) makes a journey -- be it physical, mental, spiritual or emotional -- that encompasses knowledge gained. The journey may be ruinous in the sense that he or she is destroyed by the experience(s) encountered or the journey may be rewarding in the sense that he or she is strengthened by the experience(s) encountered.
Pick two characters from works read or viewed this Semester and Compare/Contrast the two characters’ journeys within the framework of the four underlined journeys mentioned above. (If you choose a character fromLight in Augustof course you can only talk about the early part of his or her journey). here the two which I choose1. www.inf.fu-berlin.de/lehre/pmo/eng/Bierce-Chickamauga.pdf2.www.online-literature.com/poe/31/
