She lives with her parents, Jack and Melissa, and her brother, Ben, who is 9. Georgie has been spending a significant amount of time on social media and has been showing signs of anxiety and depression ever since the pandemic. Her father, Jack, noticed she disengaged from family discussions more often, was more restless, didn't get enough sleep, and had trouble controlling her feelings of worry; especially when she saw something on social media relating to covid 19. It can be overwhelming to keep up with the constant flow of news. The lockdown has caused her school to transition to online learning. She finds it hard to make friends and socialize because of the repeated transitioning from in-person to online throughout the pandemic. The ongoing lockdowns have also affected her mental health to the point where she feels she has no option but to stay in her room which has exposed her to cutting herself off, relying only on social media to engage in social interaction, causing her to feel isolated due to the lack of meeting her peers on a regular basis. After noticing these changes, Jack approached Georgie regarding the changes in her behaviour. Unfortunately, she lashes out at him because she wants to speak to her mother instead. Georgie and her father do not have a close relationship, Georgie said that it’s due to her father always being busy with his work, but now that he lost his job due to covid she feels overwhelmed with the attention she is now getting. Because of this, she feels more comfortable confiding in her mom about this topic, but she sees that Melissa is constantly occupied with work and taking care of her little brother Ben. - Issues in Child and Youth Care Practice Assignment: Individual Research Paper Value: 20% of the final grade An integral part of being a Child and Youth Care (CYC) Practitioner is to recognize and stay aware of current trends in the field. This assignment will allow you to explore and gain new knowledge on current issues or challenges that today’s CYCs are/or may be experiencing regarding the young people and families we may work with. You will then have the opportunity to teach and share your learning with your peers (See Group Presentation Assignment Outline). You will work as a group to present a topic of interest to yourself as well as the CYC field, and then based on this topic you will, individually, narrow your focus to a particular area of interest to you. This means that 2-3 students can work on the same topic overall but have 2-3 distinct areas of focus for the paper. Format: Submit an 8–10-page research paper on your topic, including the information from your workshop Your paper must follow APA 7 guidelines Include in your paper a comprehensive, strength-based treatment Plan of Care for the young person in your scenario. You must carefully outline the young person’s possible needs, goals, and strategies for success. You must be clear about the interventions and the rationale for utilising them. You must also identify and provide a rationale for the treatment philosophy, resources (within the GTA) and modality that best suits the specific needs of the child, youth, or family. You must use a minimum of 4 different Canadian sources published within the last 5 years and two sources must be “peer reviewed.” If resources are not available, critically examine why. You must demonstrate the incorporation of feedback from the presentation into your paper Introduction: ½ page to 1 page Include a brief introduction on your topic. This will include what you are contributing to your presentation, and your individual area of focus based on the general topic your team has chosen. You will also summarize the young person in your scenario and how this paper is relevant. Essentially, outline what will be discussed in your paper. Plan of Care / Intervention Plan: Discuss the young person that is the focus of your group case scenario (which you will use in your workshop), and how your area of focus applies to, or is relevant to the young person discussed. You do not need to include the original scenario. (1 page). Based on the young person your group will present on and include in the scenario, you will discuss a strengths-based assessment (using R.O.P.E.S.). the possible needs of the young person (1 page), and goals that you think would be beneficial (SMART Goals; 1 page). What does the research say would support this individual? What are some strategies for success? When listing interventions, strategies, resources, etc. be sure to outline your findings based on your research using in text citations and references. (3 to 4 pages). Be sure to outline your rationale for your intervention/treatment/resource suggestions. Why is this strategy/resource the best for the young person in your scenario? Include research to support the role of the CYC, and be sure to outline how the CYC could support the work to be done with (to be implemented with) this individual? How would you as the CYC advocate for this young person, and encourage self-advocacy? What would this look like given the context you describe? Examples will be reviewed in class. Conclusion ½ page to 1 page Summarize the key points discussed in your paper. Reference list in APA 7th Edition Format
