Professor Hofstede is one of the "world's most quoted cross-cultural experts" (as cited in Lundby, 2010, p. 23). His work is heavily referenced in Chapter 2 of the text and in other research in this area. Four critical dimensions have been created to help explain differences in cultural expectations: egalitarianism vs. hierarchy; individualism vs. collectivism; achievement vs. relationship orientation; and loose vs. tight structure (Hofstede Centre, n.d.; Weech, 2001). Knowing these dimensions helps improve our intercultural competence as researchers and practitioners in the global workplace.

After you explore Hofstede's website, click on "national culture" under cultural dimensions (http://geert-hofstede.com/national-culture.html(Links to an external site.)). Using this website, as well as the required readings, complete the following activities for your post:

Under national culture, select "countries" and pick two countries. Describe how the two countries compare across the five dimensions.
How is organizational culture different from national culture?
Share with your peers what you learned from their country analysis. How could you use this website or Hofstede's work in future consulting or research endeavors?
How is this knowledge related to intercultural competence? Why is it important for global organizations to have interculturally competent employees and leaders?

Incorporate at least one peer reviewed article in addition to the text to support your position.

Your post should be at least 300 words.

There are six types of general problems ( National cultures differing in their solutions)
i) Handling Inequality – Power Distance from large to small
ii) Dealing with unknown –Uncertain Avoidance from Strong to weak
iii) Dependence on others – From individualism and collectivism.
iv) Emotional gender role: masculinity to Feminity
