It is common for people to have low expectations of what people with disability can do and achieve. This means that sometimes they are not seen as people who can learn new skills and develop their abilities.- The support worker, however, has a responsibility to assist the person in what ever ways they need and want to achieve their goals.- Supporting someone to build their capacity to achieve their goals may include:- teaching a person social skills- using communication strategies and devices that do not rely on verbal language- learning to understand what a person behavior is expressing and communicating- learning how they communicate with a person in away that accessible and appropriate for them
