Ibtessam Abdelsayed Prof: Jennifer Hitchcock ENG 11 4/29/2023 Reflection Essay The essay includes a discussion of my learning and experiences from the course on reading, writing, and research. The research is based on the way metacognition boosts learning that has influenced the understanding of these concepts. It includes reflection on the new ideas introduced in the course and the way it has impacted along with approaches to writing tasks and the writing process. The key concept that I learned from this course is metacognition. Metacognition is the ability to think about the thinking process and the way for solving the problem. This includes thinking about thinking, planning, monitoring, and evaluating learning. Metacognition helps in improving the learning process by identifying strengths and weaknesses that can help in setting goals and evaluating progress. I have realized that being aware of my thinking process can help me to identify what requires improvement and can help me to achieve my goals. Another important concept I have learned is the importance of research. Research is a critical part of the writing process and this involves gathering information from various sources to support arguments and ideas (Lytra and Athanasios Drigas, 2021). I have learned the different types of research methods and the way to evaluate sources for credibility and reliability. This knowledge will be helpful in my future academic and professional pursuits that enable me to produce high-quality research papers and reports. I have been introduced to new ideas such as the writing process, which involves planning, drafting, revising, and editing. The writing process is an iterative one, and it requires consistent practice to improve. Additionally, I have learned the importance of audience awareness in writing. Being mindful of the target audience can help in writing with clarity and purpose. I have made changes in the way I approach writing tasks by breaking problems into smaller and more manageable parts. This approach helps me to plan and organize my ideas before starting the writing process. I have also become more aware of the importance of revising and editing my work. These changes have made me a more conscious writer and reader (Morphew, Gary E. Gladding, and Jose P. Mestre, 2020). I believe that I have met the goals of the course as outlined in the syllabus. The course has helped me to improve my writing, reading, and research skills. I have gained a better understanding of the writing process and it has increased the importance of metacognition in learning. I would say that in the future, I will use the knowledge gained from this course to improve my writing skills and produce high-quality research papers and reports. I will also apply the concept of metacognition for identifying my strengths and weaknesses. This will help me in setting realistic goals to achieve my learning objectives. The course readings and assignments are considered as useful as it provides a solid foundation for the topics covered in the course. The readings and assignments were challenging but manageable and this has helped me in developing a better understanding of the concepts covered in the course. The assignments also provided an opportunity to apply the knowledge that is gained from the course. I will continue to apply the knowledge gained from the course for making my future academic and professional pursuits to achieve my learning objectives. The course has also helped me to develop critical thinking and analytical skills (Ramdani et al. 2020). It includes the ability to evaluate sources and analyze information which is an essential skill. The course has provided me with the tools to critically assess information and identify bias and misinformation. The course has also taught me the importance of collaboration and feedback in the process of learning. The peer feedback and group projects have allowed me to gain different perspectives and insights. Collaborating with classmates has also helped me to develop interpersonal skills like communication and teamwork. The knowledge gained from the course will be invaluable in my future academic and professional pursuits. I am grateful for the experience and the opportunity to learn from the course readings and assignments. In this reflective essay, I will explore my personal growth and development. I will discuss the concepts that I have learned and the new ideas that were introduced. It includes focusing on my understanding of these concepts. I will reflect on the changes I have made in the way I approach writing tasks and the writing process. It includes an evaluation that will help in meeting the goals of the course that have been outlined. It will help in providing insight that can be applied for improving the process of learning.
