Depression and anxiety are a major problem faced by several human being and has become the greatest challenge for our society. Therefore, in order to understand the depth of human emotion and problems, psychology here plays a vital role. Behavioural psychology always deals with certain behaviourism theories approached by several respected and popular psychologist according to whom behaviours are obtained through conditioning. The Cognitive Behavioural theories thereby include as mentioned by Wu et al. (2017), Pavlov’s classical conditioning where learning is done in unconscious human mind exposing certain stimulus.
On the other hand, the next theory as mentioned by Cherry (2019), the operant theory initiated by B.F Skinner who approached that learning is a procedure where judgment of behaviour should undergo through reward and punishment methods. Therefore, it highlights the behaviours and the consequences of human behaviours. Cognitive psychology focuses the human mental state. It describes the motivational fields, deals with the human emotions and sentiments, the language adopted, explaining the learning procedures, encourage the memory power, seeks the attention, decision making and problem-solving methods.
Counselling psychology deals with the mental treatment of human psychology to improve the interpersonal features throughout the life. It also helps to improve the emotional and social health of human being comprised of their family, work, marriage and many more. As stated by Levi, Bar‐Haim, Kreiss and Fruchter (2016), cognitive behavioural therapy is a kind of talk therapy or a Psychotherapy where through a structured procedure a mental health counsellor or therapists will attend several numbers of session with their clients.
It helps to get aware of the negative thinking and as a result, a person can get to see the challenging situation more clearly and vividly and accordingly respond to it. The main purpose of this therapy is to cure the individual with chronic disorder, depression, anxiety, insomnia, fatigue symptoms, suicidal behaviour and many more. The long- term therapies in cognitive behavioural approach for the chronically depressed patient undergo significant changes in these depressive symptoms three years after the start of the treatment. Certain structural as well as symptomatic changes are observed after the treatment.
