Quality Improvement in Healthcare
Owing to the quality healthcare facilities in America, every day, millions of Americans
receive quality healthcare services that help them in recovering from their illness to lead a
healthy lifestyle. According to the World Health Organization, 2008 healthcare spending in
US accounted for approximtely15.2% of its GDP.
Though US ranks high in healthcare spending, quality problems still reflect in the manner in
which the healthcare services are rendered to the citizens. Besides the underuse and misuse of
healthcare services, healthcare services in US are largely impacted by higher levels of
unacceptable errors. According to the American Association for Justice, every year
approximately 98,000 die due to unacceptable errors. Besides this the total costs associated
with injury caused due to medical errors amounted to approximately USD 30 billion. Besides
increasing the cost of healthcare services, these errors also impact the healthcare
professionals who might lose their morale and may even regard the system of medical
liability as a barrier to their professional growth. According to the report “Crossing the
