Assessment details This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to plan and organise basic work tasks on a construction site. The unit is suitable for those with basic skills and knowledge undertaking routine work tasks under the direction of more experienced workers. Assessment for this unit comprises: a planning task a site meeting (incorporating assessor observation). Templates and an assessor checklist are provided in this Workbook. Review these documents before you get started so you are clear on what you need to do. Speak to your trainer, assessor or workplace supervisor if you have questions. Co-assessment information In some cases, this unit will be assessed alongside other units from the Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package. Your assessor will advise you if co-assessment is right for you and will talk to you about how this will take place. Keep in mind that, regardless of how and when assessment takes place, the skills and knowledge you are required to demonstrate for this unit don’t change. Am i ready? Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Your assessor will provide you with a painting and decorating task along with the related drawings and specifications. You will also be allocated to a team. You will work separately to your team members for the first task and then will come together to work with your team members to finalise your work plans in the second task. · If you are currently employed in the construction industry and would like to complete this task using a construction task from your workplace, speak to your assessor. Planning task Use the three templates provided below (Identifying components tasks template, Workflow planning template and Resources list template) to plan and organise the painting and decorating work task that has been allocated to your team. You will use these documents along with the work task drawings and specifications to: review the goals, objectives and outcomes of the task break the task into its component parts assess each component part to determine what needs to be done and how estimate how long each component part will take to complete estimate how many people will be required to complete each component part identify the tools and equipment required for each for each stage of the task plan the logical sequence of the parts to maximise efficiency prepare a written work plan prepare a resource list. You will use the completed Workflow plan and Resource list in the next task. Site meeting In this task, you will meet on site with the other members of your team to review your work plans and to allocate roles and responsibilities. You will also: review the work health and safety requirements review the environmental and workplace requirements work together to schedule the work confirm the availability of the tools and equipment. Each member of the team will then update their work plan and resource list to reflect the decisions that you make in the meeting. Remember to work safely and to demonstrate standard site meeting principles. Templates have been provided below for you to work into. Your assessor will observe you during the site meeting task. A copy of the assessor checklist has been provided below. Take some time to read through the checklist before your assessment so that you are familiar with the knowledge and skills that you need to demonstrate.
